“Philanthropos”


I used this icon of Jesus with St. Menas in a post yesterday, quoting the Desert Fathers. It is very old and quite unique because it’s the only known (ancient) icon depicting Jesus with his arm around someone’s shoulders. Jesus is called “philanthropos,” literally “friend” of all people and this image conveys that belief most wonderfully.
